CTLA-4

  • Cytotoxic T-lymphocyte antigen 4 (CTLA-4) is a receptor found exclusively on T cells. Activation of CLTA-4 downregulates T-cell activation and therefore immune response.
  • CD80 (B7-1) and CD86 (B7-2) are ligands for CTLA-4, which when bound to each other prevent T-cell activation and immune signaling. Antibodies inhibiting CTLA-4, therefore, promote activation of effector T cells and downregulation of T regulatory cells (Tregs).
