Targeting AKT Mutations

    • AKT (also known as protein kinase B, PKB) is a serine-threonine protein kinase expressed as three isoforms AKT1, AKT2, and AKT3 (encoded by the genes PKBα, PKBβ, and PKBγ, respectively).
    • Activation through mutation has been reported for all three isoforms (AKT1, AKT2, AKT3) and activation through amplification has been reported for two isoforms only (AKT1, AKT2). They affect survival, proliferation, and apoptosis of cancer cells with additional effects on tumor-induced angiogenesis through activation of other kinases (e.g., BAD, mouse double minute 2 [MDM2], GSK3β).
    • AKT1 is involved in cell rvival and growth.
